Q&A with House of Commons Speaker – John Bercow

On Monday 3rd December the school council and some year 9 pupils had the fantastic opportunity to conduct a Skype interview with the speaker of the house of commons and MP John Bercow.

A parliamentary ambassador helped us to prepare some tough questions for Mr Speaker so we didn’t waste a minute of the precious time we had. Pupils from St Catherine’s primary school also joined us for this exciting morning. We were logged on and connected to parliament at 9:30am, we were informed to address him as Mr Speaker.

Pupils gave him some really challenging questions from Brexit to how to get into the world of politics. Mr Speaker gave us some honest and thought provoking answers which really made pupils think about how necessary politics and government is in their everyday lives. He also let slip that he wasn’t David Cameron’s biggest fan!!

We had our ICT technicians on hand in case of any network failure but everything went really smoothly without any technology failures, our only issue was that we ran out of time. Apparently he had to prepare for a major Brexit debate.
