Earlier this year, Read Manchester in collaboration with Manchester Histories launched the Radical Reads initiative inviting students to write a creative piece about the Peterloo massacre. Olivia McFadden in Year 9 beat all the competition from schools all across Manchester to take the top prize. Olin Byrne and Niamh Burn were also selected for special commendation. Yesterday, our young writers attended a special event at the People’s History to celebrate their incredible achievements.
Olivia, Olin and Niamh were presented by Naomi Whitman, Creative Producer for Manchester Histories and were each invited to read their stories to the assembled audience. All three were incredibly brave and gave confident engaging readings to the packed audience. Following on from this they were all presented with a trophy by Councillor Rahman, Executive Member for Schools, Culture & Leisure. Olivia was also presented with her cash prize and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Our three winners will also soon be published!
Well done to these amazing and talented students. We couldn’t possibly be prouder of them and all they have achieved. Congratulations Olivia, Olin and Niamh!
