Catholic Life & Mission
Our Catholic Ethos
We are very proud of our Catholic ethos at The Barlow; our Catholic Life and Mission are at the heart of our community. Christ, and Gospel Values of compassion, humility, gentleness, truth, justice, and peace are at the centre of everything we do. Pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development is a high priority and opportunities for this are provided through the curriculum and wider co-curriculum offer.
All staff and pupils are encouraged to ‘live life to the full’ and walk together in our journey of faith with Christ. We want pupils and staff to work together, and to care for, respect and celebrate all individuals in our school community and the society around us.
Our Values: What is important to our community?
The Barlow has four core values: Serve, Pray, Achieve, Respect. We serve God and members of our school, local, national and global communities. We are actively involved in prayer. We work hard to achieve the best we can. We show respect to ourselves and others at all times.
Our Vision: Where are we going?
Over the last year we have revisited our vision and staff, pupils, parents and governors have been involved in shaping it. Our vision statement is:
Working together, we are guided by our Christian values to:
Have high expectations and aspirations for our community.
Promote excellence by creating opportunities, learning from each other, and broadening horizons.
Through this, we empower everyone to achieve success.
As a community, we have discussed and agreed what this vision looks like day-to-day for pupils, staff, governors and parents.
Our Mission: What is The Barlow about?
As a Catholic school, our mission is to show love through our respect for others.
We value our God-given gifts, talents and abilities. Our aim is to bring out the best in everyone, within a safe and happy environment.
Everyone should know that we are followers of God by what we do, not just by what we say.
Our Motto: What do we believe?
Our motto comes from the Book of Ezra in the Old Testament: ‘Rise up, take courage, and do it’. We believe it is more important than ever in today’s society for our pupils to be courageous, to embrace challenges that they face head on, and to pursue their dreams and make a positive difference in society. The Barlow supports pupils to do this.
